Alpaca fleece, pasture raised

248.7

Description

This dataset represents a low intensity alpaca production system in Peru. More than 80% of the worlds alpaca population can be found in highlands of Peru (FAO Stat 2017). 85% of the alpacas are run by smallholders with less than 50 animals each (FAO 2009). The dataset is based on the following assumptions: - the animals are assumed to be fed exclusively on pastures - no pasture management (no cutting, no fertilizer application) - the animals are shorn once a year manually - one animal produces 1.5 to 2.8 kg of high quality fleece (1st cut, FAO 2009), value assumed in this model is 2.3kg - enteric methane emissions are calculated based on data from Dittmann et al 2014. - methane and nitrous oxide emissions from manure are calculated based on the IPCC 2006 protocol - dung is collected for combustion purposes (50% of available nitrogen removed)
